Glossopdale Woodturners are a group of like minded people who share a hobby or interest in woodturning. The Association has approximately 40 male and female members of all ages and with levels of skill ranging from absolute beginners to very experienced turners.
Regular meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at Charlesworth Conservative club. The club is situated on Marple Rd, Charlesworth (click here to see the location), roughly 2 miles from Glossop on the road between Marple and Glossop. Members are not limited to Glossop residents, and come from many surrounding areas. The room is very comfortable, and has the advantage of an adjacent bar.
Meetings are very informal, and every month there is a demonstrater showing a project. Most demonstrations are by well known woodturners, but occasionally one of the members will show his or her project. Members are also willing to offer help, advice and tuition to anyone who requires it. David Kelly, who was our Chairman, was a professional woodturner always happy to teach, encourage and inspire; David died recently and is sadly missed, but his legacy of knowledge, help and ideas to wordturners will endure for years to come.
The position of Chairman has now been filled by Jeff Whitehead who was a very good friend of David. We know he will continue where David left off by demonstrating and helping to further the club and wordturning in the area.
